A senior project manager / program
manager
should train and guide ... mentor ... less experienced project managers and
project leaders. The senior project manager should impart key project
success criteria and methods. The senior project manager should be the advocate throughout the
organization for critical success factors.
Mentoring, training, and guiding
less experienced project managers requires a balance of patience, persistence,
solid knowledge and experience, sage counsel, and a willingness to step in to
help or direct at appropriate times. Project management entails skills in
a wide variety of arenas including people skills, communications skills,
business skills, and technical skills. Developing the balance necessary to
succeed as a project manager comes from experience, training, and the guidance
of those who have already mastered the skills.
